The involvement of children and young people
We offer Sunday school on two Sundays a month and additionally on the fifth Sunday. The children go out of church during the first hymn and return to join families for communion.
We have a vibrant Youth group. About 25 young people aged 14-18 attend the fortnightly meetings culminating in a quarterly ‘Ignite’ Youth Service usually on the last Friday of term, run by the youth and leaders. Our Youth play a big part in the annual ‘Darkness into Light’ prayer night and invitations are extended to the wider congregation. Many people have responded to these invitations.
Our youth really enjoy their engagement with a local charity responsible for sending bulging shoe boxes to Eastern Europe. They pack the Link to Hope shoeboxes at the warehouse in Worthing.
The young people participate in local events, summer camps and residential holidays but rarely attend on a Sunday, whether or not their parents are church goers.
Since January 2017, we have lost of some of our young families, so the numbers attending Explorers, our Sunday School, and Milestones (school years 7 – 9) have declined. Leaders are being proactive in addressing this. Our team of Youth and Sunday School Leaders are a wonderful resource.
