We are living in a strange and uncharted world. We are isolated from normal contact and have to forge new ways of communicating with others – a phone call rather than a face to face conversation; an e-mail rather than a conversation over coffee; a posted, handwritten card, REMEMBER THEM?!
During this time of ‘social distancing’ we should remember that we are not alone. God promises never to leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6 & Hebrews 13:5), and God’s promises are sure and trustworthy. Most of us will have a little more time in the coming weeks, we can make space for God, for listening to the Holy Spirit and spending time with our Heavenly Father.
Why not be the encouragement of God to someone today? Make a phone call – especially to someone who is not connected on social media or Facebook.
And what about all our church services being cancelled? As Christians we are ‘church’ because we belong to the family of God, not because we gather in a building to sing hymns and pray. So, your challenge is, how can you be church in this time of isolation? Keep an eye out on our parish websites www.stmarysthakeham.org and www.st-marys-sullington.org and join in with the recorded services. You can download and print the services and also find links to some music on YouTube.
Please be aware of those who do not have internet access or confidence using the web. You could print them off a service sheet to use at home and a list of bible readings, or you could print the reflection from the service off for them too. All these resources will be available within a few days on our websites.
Stay safe, be calm in God’s protection and love one another.
