Priest in Charge’s Message – COVID-19 updated 12 May 2020

12th May 2020

We have lived through two months of isolation and social distancing and the future is uncertain. The guidance from our government as to the way forward is dependent on so
many changeable factors, according to society’s behaviour, it appears unclear. But at this time we can take comfort in the fact that our God is unchangeable and completely reliable (James 1:17). We can be sure that all we need is provided by God for us, from the limitless store of his love (Philippians 4:19).

Some of us in our parish have experienced the Covid-19 virus first-hand, others are still waiting to get better, and there are some who are grieving the death of loved ones to this pandemic. There are so many people to pray for, but God never gets bored of hearing our petitions – keep praying and pass on your prayer requests if you would like the parishes to pray along with you. Contact details on the website.

Church services have moved from our buildings to YouTube and Zoom, and I am working on getting a telephone number as well, for people to hear a service… watch this space. Home groups, committee meetings and friend’s socials have moved from face-to-face to virtual formats too, and God is with us all in the Holy Spirit every time two or three meet together in his name (Matthew 18:20), even across the internet! The buildings are closed but The Church is alive and well in new and exciting forms. See the “Church Without Walls” section of our websites for details.

I am so excited and proud at how the community has stepped up to the challenge of looking after one another; neighbours caring for the elderly and vulnerable; postal workers looking out for the lonely; and a rush of people to volunteer for local council Community Hubs. We have over 50 people assisting the Thakeham & Sullington Covid-19 Support Group. They are doing shopping for folk, delivering donated food supplies, collecting prescriptions, phoning and befriending the lonely and posting letters. More information on the website.

My prayer for you is that you keep well, keep positive and keep close to God who can be completely relied upon in these uncertain days. And keep in contact with us too!
